Local Ukrainian club appreciates Mayor Bob Wells

The Comox Valley Ukrainian Cultural Society wants to thank the City of Courtenay, along with the Town of Comox, the Village of Cumberland, SD#71 and the CV Regional District for their generous financial and in-kind support for Ukrainian newcomers since the beginning of the illegal Russian invasion of Ukraine. That support has been ongoing for almost 19 months and runs the gamut from dollars donated to extended use of civic venues and recreation facilities.

Bob Wells, the Mayor of Courtenay stopped by recently to encourage our volunteers who have been out and about the Valley raising awareness as they solicit monetary support for our new Ukrainan friends and neighbours who have arrived in the Valley.  That support takes the form of Welcome Baskets, coupons at local stores, the weekly provision of fresh food, English conversation classes, rides to immigration medicals and other appointments, summer camps, as well as funds to cover expenses incurred by Ukrainian families that is overlooked by the federal and provincial governments.

Thanks to everyone in the Comox Valley and the North Island for helping out. Together we do make a difference.
