Your donations at work:

Here are some of the ways that your generosity has been used to support Ukrainian families arriving over the past year:

Welcome Baskets – New arrivals from Ukraine receive a personalized Welcome Basket filled with a variety of items for personal and household use, along with an information folder filled with useful information to assist newcomers in settling in the Valley.

Emergency Financial Assistance to Newcomers – The Committee Funding Ukrainian Survivors has established a fund to support newcomers with short-term emergency financial assistance.

Conversational English Classes – Beginning in summer 2022 through to June 2023, the Society has offered conversational English classes to complement the classes offered through the Immigrant Welcome Centre.

Food Security – Individual donors, local grocers, and service organizations have provided grocery gift cards and financial donations for the Society to offer food boxes, hampers and an ongoing FoodShare program.

Summer Camp – With substantial funding from the United Way, a 4-week summer day camp for over 30 Ukrainian children and youth was offered in 2023 – designed to support English language development, develop peer friendships with Canadian children, and explore the Comox Valley. For Summer 2024, we are providing subsidies for Ukrainian children and youth to attend the summer camps of their choice.

Ukrainian Integration Coordinator position – With substantial funding from the Refugee Readiness Network program and the Comox Valley Regional District, the Society has been able to hire a staff person (Oksana Moisieieva) to liaise with Ukrainian newcomers, provide direct support to supplement the work of government agencies, community organizations, and churches, identify the current and future needs of Ukrainian newcomers in our Valley and coordinate activities and events to assist Ukrainians in moving beyond crisis to thriving in our community.

How Can You Donate?

The Society accepts financial donations via e-transfer to cvukrainianculturalsociety@gmail.com.

Donations of clothing and household goods can be dropped off at St. Peter’s Anglican Church in Comox or Church of St. John the Divine in Courtenay for their “Blessings Boutique” – weekly free store. The Thrift Shop at the former St. Joseph’s Hospital also accept donations of clothing and household items.
We do not have a storage facility and therefore are not able to accept donations of furniture or other large items. If you have a donation of furniture items, please email a description and pictures to cvukrainianculturalsociety@gmail.com and the information will be forwarded to the Ukrainian families.
