From the desk of President, Janette Martin-Lutzer:
Greetings to all of our members and welcome to our new members!
Did you attend the “Still Standing With Ukraine” concert, here in Courtenay or Campbell River? What an incredible presentation of dance, song, music and videos. Thank you to all of our members and volunteers who worked tirelessly at merchandise tables in the community, helped with poster distribution, press and social media and website, chauffeured the performers around town, provided lunches and meal preparation – so many hands helping out in so many ways to make this endeavor a success! A final report will be available in the next few weeks and will be posted on our website.

This is our ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING!
Come and hear about all of the activities our members have been involved with over the past year and plans for the future! Elections for several Board positions will also take place.
Elections:
There are a number of positions on the Board of Directors whose terms are expiring:
Vice-President – 2-year term (currently held by Carol McCallum)
Secretary/Membership – 2-year-term (currently held by Caron Paulovich)
5 Director-at-Large positions. At the 2022 AGM, we decided to add 5 Directors to our Board given the workload and needs of the Society at that time. The terms were for one year, with the understanding that we would review and determine our needs for the following year. At our Board meeting on October 3rd, we confirmed that we do have a continuing need for Directors to support the work of the Executive (President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, Fundraiser).
We will be looking to elect members into the following positions:
1) DAL responsible for CFUS (this position is held by the CFUS committee chair – currently Susan Plensky)
2) DAL responsible for Culture/Education (position currently held by Eugene Hrushovy)
3) DAL responsible for Logistics/Equipment/Support (position currently held by Doug McCallum)
4) Director-at-Large (position currently held by Ernie Adamschek – his focus was External Entertainment and Networking)
5) Director-at-Large (currently vacant but we have a need for a DAL responsible for Volunteer Coordination/Management)
You must be a paid member to vote at the AGM. Yes, you can pay your membership fee at the AGM prior to the start of the meeting.
I am looking for one or two members to sit on the Nominating Committee with me. This will involve contacting members to invite them to put their name forward for a position or to nominate another member. Give me a call at 250-339-0793 if you are interested in this. Thank you in advance for considering this.
Saturday and Sunday, November 18th and 19th the Fiesta World Craft Bazaar in the Filberg Centre.
We will have a table set up at the Fiesta to sell some of our cool merchandise and promote our Society, especially to continue to promote awareness of our support and services to Ukrainian newcomers. We need volunteers to sit at the table!
Saturday, November 25th at St. Georges United Church from 11-4 pm “Still Standing With Ukraine” Fundraiser. St. Georges United Church is holding a Silent Auction as a fundraiser for their own social causes and they have chosen CVUCS as the primary recipient. Gary Stevenson of St. Georges came to speak to our Board as well as at our last membership meeting about this undertaking. There will be a silent auction of items valued at a minimum of $100, tables of gently-used ladies’ accessories for purchase, entertainment throughout the day, a café with Ukrainian food, and some of our traditional foods will be available for purchase to take home. We will need many volunteers to help with food preparation, sitting at our promotional table, running the café, and selling the food for take-out. Food preparation work bees are being scheduled.
